When we are all alone, then we do both agree

For being such an unhinged character, the Mad Hatter is actually rather straightforward. She is the Chain of Xerxes Break, and as such, she loves every last one of them dearly whether they're contracted to her or not; she is troubled by his ill health and the fact that she's responsible for it, and to that end, she can be rather clingy when she runs across a Break. She loves the fact that the mansion allows her to see and touch her contractor without causing him pain and will protect him with her life if it comes to that. She will also watch out for anyone that any Break happens to love; all Rainsworths and Liams will receive the same care from her, and anyone that Break likes or finds useful will at least go unmolested most of the time.

Hatter is fascinated by her own presence within the physical world. She has an intense love for colors and textures and sounds, and has been known to spend hours with her ear pressed against the window during a thunderstorm, or running her fingers along bricks. She likes to collect baubles that intrigue her, and often saves the feathers and bones from the birds she eats to decorate her room with. It is very easy for her to amuse herself by putting things in patterns and taking them back out again, and one of her prized possessions is a cookie tin that sounds like thunder when she taps on it with her fingernails.

In appearance, Hatter is tall, a full seven feet high; her hat makes her appear even taller. Her hair is white like Break's and generally styled in a bob that reaches just past her chin, though it sometimes shifts into curls or layers depending on how her own perception of herself shifts. Her eyes, however, are silver, and often appear vacant in a way that can suck people in if they look too long. She is pale skinned and long limbed and possesses sharp, vicious claws and teeth. Her usual attire is a shirt and waistcoat, a short skirt comprised of several layers of tattered fabric, fishnet stockings, and ankle-high boots.

Hatter's personality is dark, but whimsical; she has no qualms about violence, but also enjoys speaking in sing-song and rhyme. She is often forgetful and easily sidetracked, but her feelings are strong and run deep. On her good days she is calm and lucid; on her bad days she is unpredictable and difficult to reach. Most always, however, Hatter is smugly confident. She is a Chain made to destroy other Chains, and she knows exactly how powerful she is. Fortunately, she does not generally feel the need to display these powers. She is arrogant enough to assume that every other Chain knows who she is, and not to cross her.
